South Korea
The beginning of creative
connection between the Novosibirsk State Conservatoire and the
Republic Korea dates back to 1996, when the first Korean students
entered at the Conservatoire. They were graduates of the College
Tong Ne from Pussan - one of the largest Korean cities.
Now the collaboration with South Korea has
various directions.
Today (in 2001/2002 academic year) 26 Korean
students are studying at the Conservatoire. Leading professors of
the Conservatoire carry out master classes in Korea, they have
recorded a series of video-aids for Korean music schools. The
Conservatoire organizes summer schools of performing skills for
the graduates of South Korean musical colleges and higher
institutions (1997-2000). Korean musicians regularly appear on the
stage of the Grand Hall of the Conservatoire: in 1998 musical
manager and choir conductor Cho Hon Re has performed "Missa
Solemnis" by Gounod and in 1999 - the oratorio "The
world creation" by Haydn with the chorus and the orchestra of
the Conservatoire.
In 1999 the performers of Korean traditional
music from the town Tegu leading by the professor Pak Su Kwan with
teachers and students of the Conservatoire took part at the joint
"concert of friendship ". In 1999 the contracts on the
cooperation between the Novosibirsk State Conservatoire and two
universities of South Korea - Ken Buk and Yeungnam were signed. In
February 2000 at the Novosibirsk Conservatoire the first and until
now unique in Russia Center of the Korean musical culture was
opened. This event was accompanied by concerts of the Korean and
Novosibirsk musicians. The Chairmen of the Center is the rector of
the Novosibirsk State Conservatoire professor Gurenko E.G. and
honourable professor of the Novosibirsk State Conservatoire Pak Su
Kwan.
